32bit Fax
and
FaxMail Network for Windows
Tutorial

Because of their similarities this tutorial is used for both [32bit Fax] and [FaxMail Network for Windows]

First, I would like to thank for you for downloading ElectraSoft's fax software. The people here work hard to bring you powerful, quality software. If you need technical assistance, ordering information, or any other information, please call us at 1-281-499-8246 or email us.

You can try 32bit Fax for free before you buy it. When you are done trying out the software, you can either register (purchase) it, or un-install it. If you get a window popping up asking you to register, and you are not done testing the software, just click on [Get Registration Code from ElectraSoft Later].

Getting Started:

When you start the program, go into [Configure], [Modem 1]. You will need to decide how you want to send faxes. You can send faxes by Internet, data/fax modem, or both. If you want to be able to send faxes via the Internet, check the [OK to Send by Internet] checkbox, as shown below. If you want to use your data/fax modem only, leave it unchecked.

For instructions on how to send faxes via the Internet, click here.

Converting a Document to Fax:

When you installed 32bit Fax, the [ElectraSoft Print to Fax] printer was installed as a printer on your computer. This is used to convert documents from any windows program to a fax. For this printer to show up in your printer list, you will need to reboot your computer and start 32bit Fax at least one time.

To test this print driver, you can convert this tutorial to a fax. First, make sure 32bit Fax is started. You can start the program by going through the start menu or by the shortcut on your desktop. Next, in the browser you are viewing this file in (probably Internet Explorer or Netscape), click on [File, Print...] from the menu bar on the top. Choose the [ElectraSoft Print to Fax] as the printer, then click on [OK] or [Print]. The fax viewer will now come up to display the fax you have made. Close the fax viewer by clicking the [X] button in the top right corner. The fax you have converted is now ready to be sent. Read on for more information.

Start 32bit Fax if it is not already started. Go into the [Configure], [Options box]. You should not have to make any changes here. Go to the Send Fax box by Clicking the Send Fax tab, circled below.

Once here, you will see the following screen:

Here you have three choices on how to send: single recipient, multiple recipients from a faxbook, and multiple recipients from a text file.

The section in red text is the area in which you can send to a singe recipient.
The section in green text is the area in which you can send to multiple recipients from your faxbook entries.
The section in blue text is the area in which you can send to multiple recipients from a text file.

Send to a single recipient

To send a fax to a single recipient, you must have the information in the correct fields. The only field required is the fax #.

Enter the fax number in the [Fax #] field. You may use ElectraSoft's test fax lines to send to. The fax number is: 1-281-499-5939. This information may already be in place as pictured above.

If you need to dial 9 or something to get an outside line, you can put "9," in the [Fax# prefix] text box in the lower right corner of the Send Fax box. The comma is about a 2 second pause.

Next, specify the fax to send by clicking on the [Get Fax] button, circled below. If you have just converted a document into a fax, then it is already selected as the fax to send. But, for this tutorial, click on [Get Fax].

Select [C:\32BITFAX\SAMPLE.DCX] or it may be a different drive other than [C:] for you.

You can view the fax before sending by clicking on the [View Fax] button just to the right of the [Get Fax] button.

Now you should be ready to send the fax, click the [Send Fax to Single Recipient] button, circled below.

This will bring up the Events Monitor. It will look like this:

You have now sent your first fax. For more information on different features of this software, please refer to the manual or help file.

Send to multiple recipients from a faxbook

To send a fax to multiple recipients from a faxbook, you must have the faxbook selected here (pictured below). From here, you can also create your own faxbook and add entries to it. Normally, you would click the [Select Faxbook] button and then load your own faxbook. For this tutorial though, you can use the sample faxbook to send ElectraSoft faxes.

The [SAMPLE.FBK] should already be selected. If you need to view or change the fax numbers in the faxbook in any way, you can do so once you click on [View Fax Faxbook], then highlight the entry, then click on [Edit, Edit Entry] from the menu bar on the top.

Now you should be ready to send the fax, click the [Send Fax to Group FaxBook] button, circled below.

This will bring up the Events Monitor. It will look like this:

Send to multiple recipients from a text file

To send a fax to multiple recipients from a group list (text file), you must have the group list selected here (pictured below). From here, you can also create your own list and add entries to it. Normally, you would click the [Select Fax Number List] button and then load your own list. For this tutorial though, you can use the sample list to send ElectraSoft faxes.

The file, [C:\32BITFAX\FaxNums\SAMPLE.TXT] should already be selected (it may be a different drive other than [C:] for you). You can select it by clicking the [Select Fax Number List] button.

Receive a fax

To receive a fax, the computer must be on and 32bit Fax must be running. The modem/computer must be plugged into the phone line that the fax is coming in on. The modem must be configured to receive a fax. To make sure a modem is configured to receive a fax, select the tab [Configure, Modem X], where X is a number between 1 and 4. If you only have one modem, then you will be at [Configure, Modem 1]. See picture below.

At the bottom of this screen where it says, [Modem Usage], one of the following must be selected: [Receive Fax Only] or [Send and Receive Fax]. If you select [Receive Fax Only] you will not be able to send faxes with this modem.

Now, look more towards the middle of this box where it says, [Rings Until We Answer]. By default this will be set to 3. You can set it to whatever you want. This is how many times the phone line will ring until our software answers the phone line to receive a fax.

If this is all set correctly and the software is running, it will answer the phone line on the amount of rings you specified. You can go into the Events Monitor to see the details on the transmission in progress. Once the fax is received, the [Correspondence Received] box will come up asking you what to do with the fax.

Send Fax by Internet - Setup

Make sure that you have the [OK to Send by Internet] checkbox checked, as described in the previous section.

Normally, you will be using 1 modem, unless you require multiple lines for sending/receiving faxes. The modem will be treated as and called a modem in this program, even if you are using the Internet to send a fax. If you are sending via the Internet, think of it as a virtual modem that uses the Internet to send faxes instead of your phone line, which is how faxes are normally sent.

Before you can send faxes over the Internet, you must sign up for an online faxing account, if you have not already done so. Without this, you cannot send faxes over the Internet.

Click here to Get an Internet Fax Account. This link can also be access from inside 32bit Fax; Go into [Configure], [Options], click on [Internet Fax Setup], then click [Get Internet Fax Account] - as shown below.

Once you have signed up for your Internet Fax Account, you must enter in your user information in 32bit Fax. To do so, go into [Configure], [Options], click on the [Internet Fax Setup] button. A dialog box will come up where you can enter in your [Fax User ID] and your [Fax PIN Number]. Enter this information in and make any other changes necessary in this box and then click on [Apply].

Once you have done this, you are now ready to send faxes over the Internet. When you are about to send a fax, you will be in the [Send Fax] tab. In the bottom right, there will be a radio option: [Send Fax by], as circled below. If you want the fax to be sent out by Internet, be sure [Internet] is checked, otherwise check [Modem] to send the fax via your data/fax modem. This is so you have the option to alternate which method to send by for each send event.
